Blog 11Self Assessing and Reflecting

1. My Favorite Tools
    A. Apps that are available for testing ones fitness. The students could use these to check their heart rate and      keep track of their fitness improvements.
    B. I tunes that show videos on different exercise programs to keep life long fitness.

2.  Change my thinking
     A.  I did not think that I would  find many ways or apps to use in health fitness. Of course, after reading through each of the tools and researching the various tools, apps, and websites, I know there are quite a few  out there to use in health fitness. My thoughts have changed in the fact that I now see the vast potential for increasing interest and a desire in my students to become better fit individuals. Everywhere you look, students are on their technological devices texting, playing games, and listening to music. If we want to reach them and help them learn important information and skills to be lifelong learners, then we as eduacators will need to make changes.


3. Unexpected outcomes
    A. I was amazed at how many apps and you tube videos are available that might interest the students and make them want to become more fit individuals and look at Health Fitness as a life long goal.

Blog 10 Underneath It All

1. 3 things to understand about digital citizenship:
    A. use in an appropriate and kind way 
    B. form healthy and productive alliances
    C.use effectively in searching for information

2. Instructional resources:
    A. Chart of resources by grade level and content available on SBISD's Ed. Tech. website
    B. iSafe Program

3. Teaching Digital Citizenship to Students:
    A.  Watch a video about digital citizenship.
    B. Participate in a discussion about the video and how they can be good digital citizens.
    C.Share ideas about appropriate ways to use the internet or any technological device.

4. Sharing Digital Citizenship with Parents:
    A. Provide information about iSafe Factsheets by Texas School Safety Center
    B. Provide parents with the Chart of Resources by Grade Level and Content by SBISD Ed. Tech.

Tool 9 Incorporating Classroom Based Devices

3 Things I Learned:

  1. how to create videos and vodcasts
  2. how to set up an iTunes account linked to SBISD
  3. how to set up the SBISD wireless network

Device Management Plan
  1. make sure all students are in compliance with SBISD policies
  2. have group leaders responsible for getting and returning the devices during each period
  3. model appropriate use of the device
  4. have specific instructions for the task at each workstation
  5. when monitoring small groups have specific questions to ask students and check off as students show their work
  6. post guidelines/rules and consequences at each workstation

Tool 7 Online Digital Projects

After looking at the sites provided I feel as a Health Fitness instructor I could use this tool to create an opportunity for student base learning.  In Health Fitness we are looking for activities that keep the students active and engaged.  The project that I would design would be a jump rope routine.
a.  The objective would be for the students to form groups and design their own jump rope routine performed to  music in which the group determines to be appropriate for the elements of the routine.
b.  I plan to implement this plan next semester.
c.  I will use You Tube to introduce the unit, showing various routines such as XBox commerical.  Google docs would be a good tool for the groups to use when designing the routine.  Today's Meet for questions regarding routine and the groups progress towards a finish project.
d.  Students will need to design a jump roping routine that would last between 45 seconds to 1 1/2 minutes.  A variety of jump rope moves will be mandatory.  We will spend several days with simple jump rope skips and then have the groups explore online to experiment with different moves of varying degrees of difficulties.  Routines will need performed with music and before the class.
e.  Include other Health Fitness classes at SBMS and video tape all performances.

Tool 6 Using Web Tools to Promote Discussion

I created an account on Diigo, Wallwisher and then looked at Todays Meet where I asked a question which students could respond to help set up a workout routine to improve cardiovascular conditioning.  Below is the link to this question.

Using these tools in the classroom will aid in creating conversation between teacher/student, as well as between student/student.  In Health Fitness it will allow students to create routines in areas just as jump rope, dance, etc... and let them be creative while developing their routines.  The important element in this process will be the constant communication that will generated in the classroom through the use of technology.  In addition, since writing is important to student's success, students will have the opportunity to use writing skills while completing their assignments in Health Fitness class.

Tool 5 Producing with Web 2.0 Tools

I visited several sites and found the tools extremely interesting and beneficial to the learning process.  I didn't realize the various opportunities that enable educators to provide a meaningful and technologicial lesson.  I think incorpating student base instruction using websites would enhance the learning process.  I looked at several sites such as Animoto, Big Huge Labs, Glogster, and Prezi and saw the benefits from the various sites.  I produced a comic strip from Make Beliefs Comix and used WordSift.com which was another great site. This is a fantastic way to help students learn new words and understand their meaning. Since reading needs to be taught across the disciplines, WordSift is a great way to teach vocabulary.
